Why do I keep messing up if I really love Jesus?

In this episode of Not for Sunday Mornings, Steve and Chris dig deeper into the struggle with sin, sanctification, grace, and what spiritual growth actually looks like.

Does struggling with sin mean you aren’t growing? What’s the difference between guilt and shame? How do you work hard at becoming more like Jesus without believing your effort earns God’s approval? And at what point does “putting sin to death” require more than simply praying about it?

We also get practical about pornography, alcohol, gossip, anger, materialism, accountability, and the uncomfortable reality that sometimes following Jesus means taking an aggressive step to remove something from your life.

The big idea: You aren’t fighting for an identity. You’re fighting from an identity.

You are going to mess up. The question is what you do next. Do you stay down in shame, or do you get back up and turn toward Jesus again?

Plus, golf, musical instruments, hospital visits Steve definitely did not make, big smelly onions, and why Romans might be harder to preach through than Leviticus.

Keep asking good questions.
